Bra Statistics –- An Unique Insight

It has been noticed that a brassiere purchase is not considered to be an impulsive buying decision. The NPD Group, Inc. (a leading market research agency), recently brought out a report on the bra statistics. It provides info on the bra purchasing habits of women. The data was collected from a total of over 1000 bra-buyers and the information present on the NPD Fashion World SM Women’s Bra Report exposed the facts on the bra-buying habits of women. On an average, a woman buys 3.4 bras annually and 2.5 bras in every shopping spree, though age and income affects the bra-purchasing decisions. Like women above 55 years prefer continuing with the same style and brand of corsets, whereas 40% with incomes over US$75K say they buy at least three bras at once. Only 33% with lower incomes purchase three or more bras at a time.

Statistics reveal that two-thirds of women buy bras tagged "on sale" or “free” half of the time, and that only after proper planning. Discount stores such as Wal-Mart, Kmart or Target end up selling more bras than the specialty stores. The bra statistic also reveals that large numbers of young women are more inclined towards the specialty stores unlike the mid-thirties and above age group, whose preferences are the regular garment shops.

Now comes the part on style and colour. Of the women surveyed, 66% agreed on the style and color of the bra to suit the clothes. Bra Manufacturers and bra retailers should be aware of the users’ choice of bra, ranging from the durability of the bras, the fit, to more choices in styles (including corset), colors, patterns and panty/bra sets.
