Preteen Padded Bras — A Debatable Issue

Recently there has been quite a bit of noise over the issue of providing padded bras for girls as young as nine. Retailer Argos came under fire from concerned child welfare chiefs for its decision to sell padded bras for girls as young as nine. They are cushioned and stuffed bras for young girls. The preteen padded bras are available in a range of colors and sizes from 6A and are labelled ‘padded’ or ‘cushioned’. They are part of a pre-teens fashion collection called ‘Tammy’ that even includes tiny G-strings.

The controversial collection of the preteen padded bra is featured in the kids and babies section of the Argos catalogue. However, many people feel this is an undesirable step and totally uncalled for. Dr Michelle Elliott of children's charity Kidscape, said, ‘This is totally wrong. Let kids be kids. Don't push sexuality on them before their time.’ An Argos spokesman was reported as saying the bra collection was one of its best-selling lines and it had no plans to withdraw the fashionable items.
