Elle Macpherson launches fashion hit of 2004: Fashion Targets Breast Cancer UK

Elle Macpherson will hit UK high streets this April as she launches the country’s most successful charity fashion campaign Fashion Targets Breast Cancer UK for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. As the official face of FTBC, Elle will be promoting the T-shirt campaign that raises awareness of breast cancer and millions of pounds for Breakthrough’s research and awareness work through the sale of the famous FTBC T-shirt.

By supporting FTBC UK Elle is adding her name to the fashion hall of fame that has supported the campaign since it launched in the UK in 1996, including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon, Gisele, Heidi Klum, Jodie Kidd, Twiggy and Jerry Hall.

Elle, who is keen to raise awareness of the disease, will feature on FTBC’s nationwide advertising campaign from the beginning of April. I celebrated my 40th birthday in March this year and I am increasingly conscious that I and all women need to understand that age is the biggest known risk factor – as you get older the risk of developing breast cancer is greater. But no matter what your age, all women need to check their breasts regularly.

Over 1,000 women in the UK die from breast cancer every month and simply buying a Fashion Targets Breast Cancer T-shirt today means you can help Breakthrough beat the disease – something we would all like to see.

Elle will be joined by a host of famous faces from the worlds of fashion and entertainment – Denise Van Outen, Tess Daly, Edith Bowman, Jayne Middlemiss, Kim Medcalfe, Zoe Lucker, ITV’s Katie Derham, Suzi Perry, Vicky Smurfit and Nigel Harman have all selected their favourite style.

FTBC is bigger and better than ever, with the famous FTBC symbol reborn for 2004 in bright red and khaki and boasting a collection that features 6 new T-shirt styles and top British models Jasmine Guinness, Erin O’Connor, Liberty Ross and Georgina Cook have been setting the season’s trend by wearing a limited edition FTBC UK T-shirt, exclusively created by British designer Paul Smith.

Paul Smith’s unique style gives the well-known FTBC T-shirt a twist by creating a Union Jack consisting of tiny Targets to create FTBC’s first ever designer product. Only 1,000 Paul Smith T-shirts will be sold from the beginning of April through Paul Smith stores, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser and Selfridges. At £49, each one will raise at least £20 for Breakthrough.

The high street collection includes a fitted three-quarter-sleeve T-shirt, a raw edged tank top and a stylish summer vest, each with a different take on the Target symbol. With prices ranging from £10 to £15, they’re a simple and fashionable way to show your support for the breast cancer cause. All T-shirts will be available nationwide from 1st April in River Island, Dorothy Perkins, Episode, Hobbs, House of Fraser, Kookai, MK One, Morgan, Pilot, Warehouse and Avon. Alternatively supporters of the campaign can order FTBC T-shirts online by visiting www.fashiontargets.org.uk or calling the FTBC hotline on 0870 750 7027.

FTBC is a worldwide initiative inspired by Ralph Lauren in the USA in 1994 as the fashion industry’s response to the devastating impact of breast cancer. Breast cancer incidence is on the increase in the UK with more than 40,000 women diagnosed each year and 13,000 dying from the disease. However, the good news is that more and more women are surviving the disease than ever before.
