April 27, 2004 By: Christina Robertson Women Just Don't Get Enough Support...From Their Bras, That IsJCPenney to Hold Nationwide Bra Fit Events for Women; 8 Out of 10 Women Wear the Wrong Size Bras PLANO, Texas. Some spend hours at the gym strengthening their back muscles trying to eliminate that bra overhang. Others can't wear that tank top because their bra strap keeps falling down. It happens more than we would like to admit. In fact, eight out of ten women wear the wrong size bra. JCPenney will be holding Bra Fit Events in its department stores nationwide. Women across the country are invited to visit their local JCPenney department store for expert measurement and consultation in a private, discrete setting by one of the nearly 8,000 JCPenney Certified Fit Specialists nationwide. During consultations, Certified Fit Specialists recommend styles that best suit particular fashions and body types – taking into account type of strap, width of band and style of cup, all of which affect the way a bra fits. On average, most women wear or own three bras or less---it is recommended that the basic bra wardrobe consist of at least seven bras, one for each day of the week and in a variety of styles and colors for day, evening, and active wear. We have seen so many women come in on a daily basis insisting they know their bra size, says Beverley Hinkson, JCPenney fit specialist. But the truth is, as women age, their body type can change, and with that their bra size, resulting in the noticeable bra-overhang, loose straps and even bruising of the tissue. That's why we're encouraging women to come in and get measured. They may be surprised to learn they’ve been wearing the wrong size bra for years, and how terrific it feels to wear one that fits. JCPenney -- through its vast assortment in its department stores, the JCPenney Catalog and www.JCPenney.com -- offers solutions to fit practically every woman’s needs, with flattering and feminine bras ranging from 32AA to 54I. Customers will find their favorite brands and a continuous flow of new fashion styles and colors---all at an exceptional value. JCPenney offers national brands such as Bali, Olga, Vanity Fair and Playtex, in addition to its private brand Delicatesä. JCPenney’s Delicatesä brand, which offers foundation pieces, lingerie and sleepwear, was introduced approximately 10 years ago. Through this offering, the customer can find the latest trends, colors, styles and treatments at an affordable price. In response to customer demand for bra styles in a cotton fabrication or blend, JCPenney has recently introduced the Delicatesä Cotton Collection. This collection offers bras in a comfortable cotton Lycra or spandex blend, which provides extra support and coverage, at a retail price of $20. Women are falling in love with our Delicatesä Cotton Collection, said Hinkson. It offers them a natural, soft, breathable, cooler, and most important, comfortable fit. However, the cotton blend styles may not be for everyone and that is why we encourage women to visit us during the fit events so that they can find the styles and fabrications that best meet their needs. JCPenney’s team of Certified Fit Specialists recommends that women have an annual, professional fitting checkup since a woman’s bra size may change due to weight loss or gain, pregnancy or exercise. In addition, the Fit Specialists can provide information on new bra technology, fabrics and construction trends as well as lingerie fashions that complement new styles in women’s apparel. They believe that when women have the right tools for bra entire site. A recent industry survey reported on the least appealing items women purchase and bras
ranked number two behind swimwear, said Diane Pizarro, JCPenney fit specialist. Most
women are confused about the correct size and style for their body shape and become
frustrated when shopping for the perfect bra, so they try to avoid it altogether. To remove the
confusion and frustration from the bra-shopping experience, women should make plans to visit
their local JCPenney department store for a personal consultation. With over 1,000 stores
nationwide, they are sure to find a store near them.
